rough day

Today hasnt been so good. I’m not getting much sleep… sorta 3 hours at a time. Today I had a shower and felt all faint, went and laid down and snoozed and felt better.

managed to get down some yoghurt, and if i lie on my back on the couch I feel alot better.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

The day before

Well, I had to go and give a few pints of blood, just in case they need to give me a transfusion.

For anyone interested here is an article on the surgery:

So, I will have my mobile on me, and you can text me. I will be home on thursday evening.

Hopefully I will be able to post from in the hospital – just because I can 😛

countdown to d-day

well, its 4 days till surgery now. Its getting harder and harder to stick to the optifast, I am just craving a big feed of steak or something.

Tuesday morning at 7am I am going in to get the chop. I hope Catherine (I think that’s the surgeons name… or is it surgeoness? I have no idea) is going to get a good night sleep on monday… I doubt i will be.

Well, I have a laptop, some movies, and I’ll try and post from in the hospital… I know I had trouble at middlemore with the 3g being off, but I am hoping the MSC is different…  a WAP would rock 😛

*remembers to install some sniffers on his lappy*   😛

Well, thanks for reading so far, please feel free to comment ::)

End of Week 3

Well, freaky… only 8 days to go to surgery.. tuesday week I am in..

Its been a real struggle, i’ve been exhausted.. I’ve done so much damage to my lower legs due to things hitting them and so forth. I’ve been deathly afraid of infection preventing me from getting the surgery. However, they seem healed up now so thats good.

I’ve noticed that I need very little food now, to stop being hungry, and apart from diabetes triggers I really dont feel like I need much to eat at all… in fact apart from the rare occassion I really crave something to chew on, I dont feel the need to eat much at all.

Anyway, according to our dodgey scales I am down to 179 KG. Its not all that accurate, but it does show the weight is going down. So far I have come down from 202.5 KG.

So, measurement changes are:

Neck: 52.25cm > 51 cm = 1.25 cm                            Total=2cm

Chest: 153 cm > 150.5 cm = 2.5 cm down.             Total=4.5cm

Wrist: 20.75 cm > 20.5 cm = 0.25cm down.         Total=0.5cm

Bicep: 47 cm > 45.5 cm = 2.5 cm down                   Total=2.5cm

Stomach: 154.5 cm > 153 cm = 1.5 cm down         Total=6.5cm

Not bad work really.

Anyway, we’re getting there.

Peace.

End of week 2

Righty, week 2 has ended. Still cant really be weighed at home…

Measurement change is:

stomach: 156cm > 154.5 = this week, 1.5cm, total loss of: 5cm

Neck: 53 > 52.25 (this is odd as my neck has been 52/53cm since I was like, 20).

Everything else stayed the same.

This week its been very very hard. I am extremely tired, and not able to think straight. I damaged my left leg, firstly by getting a cut on the saide of the foot, then taking a chunk of skin off my shin, and then by getting a huge blood blister on my heel. If you know anything about diabetes and cellulitis you’ll know that this is/can be quite serious. Fortunately we were given some antibiotic cream by mom, and used liberal doses of peroxide (ouch!) and it seems to have calmed down. I can tell now when there is an infection because it takes a huge toll on my system. It really wipes me out, to the point I was afraid to drive even. But anyway, thats calmed down now so hopefully I can get back to the pool tomorrow.

In breaking news, I got myself a Nokia 5800 phone today. I needed a new phone for work, especially one with GPS so I can locate customer premises and stuff easily. This one also doubles as an mp3 player, so I can get  rid of all the extraneous cables and devices in my car, and just have one. YAY. Its my first new phone ever. Hopefully its the start of a new career, a new life, and all things are going to go swimmingly.

Day 12

At least I think it is.

Been fairly good today, no hypos, shifted 2 cubic meters of wood. Took a chunk of skin off my leg, but its all bandaged up and antisepticised. Getting an infection in my leg now would be a massive bummer…

Still a bit grumpy and stuff, but the desire to masticate is not quite so pervasive. I need to get some sleep though, one of the side effects (for me anyway) of sleep apnoea is that if I get a bit tired, I pretty much lose all my will power. I’ve been struggling with all sorts today.

I’ll be getting my laptop back this weekend, so I can take it to hospital. Also, I need it for work, but thats beside the point.

Anyway, thanks for listening 😛 Tune in again at the end ofthe week for measurements and hopefully a weight.

End of week 1

Right, its now the first day of week 2, and so here’s a stat update.

Neck: 53cm > 53 cm = 0 cm

Chest: 154.5 cm > 153 cm = 1.5 cm down.

Wrist: 21 cm > 20.5 cm = 0.5cm down.

Bicep: 47 cm > 46 cm = 1 cm down

Stomach: 159.5 cm > 156 cm = 3 cm down

Not a bad first week I guess. I am still over 180KG, as thats what my scales measure to, and I am still getting “err”. If I cant weigh by the end of this week I will go to the clinic and see what I am down to.

Some reflections are; I feel a bit like an addict on methodone. I have this almost uncontrollable desire to eat something, so its really really hard. Also, I am starting to have more hypos now, which is a sign the weight is dropping, so I might have to check with the doctor this week and see if its worth dropping some more meds.

I am still making myself a “stir fry” for dinner, and I really look forward to it each day. I cheated a little bit and put some expensive sheep feta on top last night. Man that was YUM YUM YUMMY.

Anyway, tune in for more updates.

ooops

Well, today is day 5, not the other day when I said it was day 5. I blame the lack of food.

So, a few hypos in the last few days, mostly down to me not taking meds at the right time, and not eating at the right time. So I reckon if I can keep a better schedule then I can get it all under control.

People (even my wife) are noticing that I look slimmer, and I kinda feel it as well. I dont know what my weight is yet, I should probably go to the clinic, but its cold, and a bit of work towing along a 2 yr old, so I’ll just hang fire another week.

I did have a bad day today though, hypo made me lose a bit of will power and I ate a couple of cookies and a piece of bread. I dont think it will break the bank though, so it should be all good.

I’ll probably measure myself on saturday and see what the stats say.

Fifth Day update

Well, today was day 5, I think. I was busy out and about but I made it ok without too much stressing about what I was to (or not to) eat.

Yesterday I went to th zoo for about 4 hours with my daughter, which was awesome, and I didnt have too much problem. I guess the weightloss is now kicking in. I dont really know though, until I get under 180 KG and my home scales will weigh me.

Tonight i chucked some onion, tomato, garlic, peppers, and stuff into a pan, throw in some salt and seasoning, and “fried” it in a teaspoon of oil. Turned out to be really tasty and something I will look forward to later in the week.

Its interesting, but after only 5 days, the 2 cups of veges I can eat makes me feel very full, bloated even. And having something to chew on makes allt he difference.

Weightloss Journey day 2

Well, day 2 of the first week of optifast. Man, talk about a killer, it is REALLY hard to just eat shakes, a piece of fruit and a handful of veges each day.

I have to admit I cheated today, and I had 3 Oporto Nuggets, and a small fries (it is VERY small.. like 10 fries, lol). I figure it wont break the bank, and I was on the verge of a hypo, so I had to eat something.

I am working on a graph of my measurements and weight, so I can (and you can) keep track, click the WLS Graph page.

Update you again soon.

Ok, Now we’re moving.

Its 3 minutes past midnight, so I officially start my one month of Optifast shakes today.

According to the bypassers mailing list, this is actually the hardest part, 4 weeks of nothing but milkshakes and a handful of veges. Its also kinda scary because it means that I am close to getting the chop now.

Anyway, hopefully tomorrow I will post some stats, measurements and so forth, and then I will be able to keep a record of how it goes.
