Marie Hayes It is likely that he was born in France. He apparently escaped the troubles in France, and family lore of a great grandchild says that his parents were guillotined, so it is likely his family were nobility or landowners. It is also said that he had a brother Leonard who came to New Zealand (Akaroa Harbour) on a naval ship.Unsourced information from Ancestry family tree - source Marie, great grandchild of Alexander Maurice Alexander married Mary Rowe in 1879 at St Paul's Church in Cashel Street, Christchurch. New Zealand Electoral rolls show Alexander to be a tailor, he first lived in Oamaru and later resided in Christchurch. He was buried at the Oamaru Cemetery.
