Later on he became an inspector of the bank, but retired from that position at a comparatively early age to take up that of assistant manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company in Wellington. Subsequently he joined the Commercial Assurance Company, and was for some years travelling inspector for that company, visiting in this capacity practically all the branches throughout the world. Retiring with a competency at an early age, Mr. Hanna resided in London, where he was a familiar figure at many meetings of public companies in which he was interested as a shareholder. His well-informed criticisms on financial matters were always welcomed. As a bachelor, it always gave him great pleasure to extend hospitality to visiting New Zealanders, to whom he was known as a prince amongst entertainers. In his younger days he. was well known as a polo player, and he also indulged in many other forms of sport. It had been his intention to revisit New Zealand, either at the close of this year or at the beginning of next, with Sir James Mills, his intimate friend.
