== Biography ==Dorcas Starbuck, daughter of Edward Starbuck Jr. and Katherine (Reynolds) Starbuck, was born in 1639 in Dover, Strafford, New Hampshire. She married William Gayer about 1672 on Nantucket Island. Their children were Damaris (b. 1673), Dorcas (b. 1675), and William (b. 1677). She died on Nantucket in October 1696.

== Research Notes ==That Dorcas (Starbuck) Gayer died in 1696 is "according to tradition," writes William C. Folger in "The Gayer Family" (1877).Folger, William C. "The Gayer Family." ''The New England Historical and Genealogical Register.'' [https://archive.org/details/newenglandhistor31wate/page/297 Vol. 31, p. 297]. However, Henry Worth concluded in 1922 that she died "before 1690, when [her husband William Gayer] married Maria Gouard."Worth, Henry Barnard. "William Gayer and His Descendants." ''[https://nha.org/research/nantucket-history/historic-nantucket-magazine/proceedings-of-the-nha-twenty-eighth-annual-meeting/ Historic Nantucket,'' 1922], pp. 38-47. As the date of her husband's second marriage is well-established (see the profile of "[[Jameson-1969|Maria Gouard]]"), it seems likely that her actual date of death was before 1690, as suggested by Worth.
