==Research Notes==* In 1752 the calendar in England changed from old style to new style. Previous to 1752 the new year began on March 25th in 1752 it was changed and began January 1st. Dates prior to 1752 occurring between January 1st and March 25th will be recorded as dual years to reflect the change. The same year, they stopped using the Julian Calendar in favor of the Gregorian Calendar.
* A source for his date of birth and location have not been located for Henry. There are several sources that suggest he was born in 1565 in Rattlesdon, Suffolk and, others believe it to have been in St George, Bradfield, Suffolk. A birth record in Rattlesden could not be located. St George, Bradfield has not digitized their registries. Due to this his precise date of birth and the location, are can not be confirmed at this time. (22 Sep 2020)
* Find-A-Grave has his birth date as 1 November 1560 in Rattlesden, Mid Suffolk District, Suffolk, England. This date was previously on this profile with no source. The following has been moved from the biography: [[Fitz-Henry-9|Fitz-Henry-9]] 22:05, 18 October 2019 (UTC):''Posts by Doug Webster (http://genforum.genealogy.com/kimball/messages/629.html) note that Henry is the son of Edmund and not a royal line of Sir William Scott and Lady Mary Howard, citing the "Scott Pedigree Extention and Bradfield St. George Parish Register."''
The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, volume 52:248 (Apr 1898) contains an abstract of the will of Henry Scott in which are mentioned his wife Martha, sons Thomas and Roger, and grandchildren Abigail, Henry, Elizabeth, and Richard Kimball. This source also establishes wife Martha as a sister of Robert Whatlock. This abstract was reprinted in Water's Genealogical Gleanings of England, Volume II [1907].
The will of Henry Scott of Rattlesden, yeoman, was made September 24, 1623, and proved January 10, 1624. To his wife Martha he left the house in which he dwelt for the term of her life, after which it was to go to his son Roger and his heirs forever. To his grandchild Abigail Kemball, 40s. at the age of twenty-one. To his grandchildren Henry, Elizabeth and Richard Kemball, 20 s. each at the age of twenty-one. To Thomas Skott, £5 within one year of his decease. To Mr. Peter Devereux, minister of Rattlesden, 10s. Executrix: wife Martha [ Bury St. Edmund Wills, Pearle, L. 117.]
Ten years after her husband’s death Martha Scott set sail for America with her son Thomas Scott and her daughter Ursula Kemball and ten grandchildren of all ages from a boy of eighteen to a baby of one. This family group embarked on the Elizabeth of Ipswich the last of April in 1634, the adults taking the Oath of Allegiance at the Ipswich Customs House before sailing. Martha Scott’s age is given on the list as sixty although she was actually aged sixty-six. The Scotts and Kemballs settled in Ipswich after a short stay in the Boston neighborhood, and there, presumably, Martha Scott died, there being no record.
Massachusetts Pioneers: Thomas Scott, ae. 40, with wife Elizabeth, ae. 40, and ch. Thomas, ae. 11, and Elizabeth, ae. 9, came in the Elizabeth of Ipswich April 30, 1635. Martha Scott, ae. 60, came In the same ship. He settled at Cambridge; propr. 1633, frm. March 4, 1634-5. Rem. to Ipswich; propr. 1635; town officer, 1653. He was a son of Henry Skott of Rattlesden, Suffolk, yeoman, his wife Martha; the father d. in 1624, and the widow came as above; her dau. Ursula, the wife of Richard Kembold or Kimball, came in the same ship. Reg. Lii, 248.
One query at Genforum says that little documentation exists as to Henry's father, to allow choosing between Edmund, b. 1525/1530, Sir William, b. Abt. 1540, and Thomas.
In the records of Suffolk, there are eleven Whatlocks, Whytloks, Whytlaks shown in the 1524 Subsidy Roll living in places such as Lavenham, Okynham, Bawdesey, Stanstead, Herkested and Codynham. There is a Whatlock family living just north of these places in Rattlesden in the late 1500's. Thomas & Joane Whatlock were married in 1560 and had four children, Roger 1561, Robert 1564, Martha 1568 and Dorothy born 1572. The family appears to have prospered in Rattlesden and Thomas and his wife, Joane lived there until their deaths, Thomas in 1608 and Joane two years later in 1610.The youngest daughter, Dorothy died young in 1574. The eldest son, Roger, appears to have gone to Norfolk as his brother Robert mentions in his will "the house in Norfolk my brother Roger Whotlock gave me". Robert became a "knacker" which at that time probably was a harness maker. He was married twice but his will of 1622 does not mention a wife or any children. Robert does mention his sister Martha Skott and his kinsmen Thomas & Roger Skott. Also mentioned is kinswoman Ursula Kemball. Henry Skott witnessed the will.
Martha Whatlocke married Henry Scott July 25,1594 at Rattlesden. Henry was the son of Sir William & Lady Mary (Howard) Scott and was grandson of Sir Charles Howard, Earl of Nottingham. Henry Scott was a yeoman farmer and his will is dated September 24, 1623 and proved January 10, 1624. Henry mentions his Kemball grandchildren and his sons Thomas & Roger Skott. Ursula Skott married Richard Kimball and in April 1634 they left Ipswich, England and settled in Ipswich, New England.
