Francis Coombs was born about 1635 in Plymouth, the son of [[Coombs-58|John]] and [[Priest-38|Sarah (Priest) Coombs]].Townsend, Mrs. Charles Delmar, Wakefield, Robert C. S., FASG, and Margaret Harris Stover, ''Mayflower Families through Five Generations'', Vol. 8, General Society of Mayflower Descendants, Plymouth, MA., 2nd Ed., 2008. p. 20. He was a grandson of Mayflower passenger Degory Priest.
He married first Deborah Morton about 1672 probably in Plymouth, the daughter of John and Lettice Morton born Plymouth perhaps 1652. She died there about 1678. Her father's will, dated 29 October 1673 named his daughter Deborah, the wife of Francis Combe..
He married secondly, about 1678, to Mary (Barker) Pratt, the daughter of John and Anna (Williams) Barker. She was born about 1647 and died after the 15 May 1711 division of her husband's estate. Her first husband was Samuel Pratt, and her third husband was David Wood whom she married at Middleboro on 05 March 1684/5.

Francis was chosen selectman in Middleboro in 1674, 1675 and 1680.
He died in Middleboro on the last day of December 1682.
Shortly after his death, 8 Mar 1682/3, the court made provision for the care of Francis' daughters, Deborah and Mercy, by his first wife, plcing them in the care of their mother's relatives. Deborah was placed with her grandmother Lettice Ring and Mercy with her uncle John Morton.
