=== Immigration ===Sarah was a passenger on the Anne that arrived at Plymouth Colony in New England in 1623. She and her sister Mary Priest emigrated from Leyden/Leiden with their mother Sarah (Allerton)(Vincent)(Priest) Godbertson and step father Godbert Godbertson, and their son Samuel. === Timeline ===* 1623: Her stepfather 'Cudbart Cudbartstone' (sic) as passenger on the Anne received six acres in the Plymouth division. This land grant was given to Godbert, his wife Sarah, their son Samuel, and to Sarah's deceased husband Degory Priest and her two daughters, Sarah and Mary Priest. [Anderson, Robert C. p. 9]* 1633/4: John Coomb exchanged 30 acres near the high cliff, possessed in the 'right of Sarah, his wife' for 30 acres near 'Wynsloes stand.' * 1637: July 1: John Coombs assumed the remaining time of William Spooner, as servant to John Holmes. * 1639: June 24: John Coomb mortgaged his dwelling house and 20 acres, 'which came by his wife', to Thomas Prence. * 1640: August 3: The court confirmed that Godbert Gobertson had, prior to his death in 1633, given 2 acres of upland to his sons-in-law, John Coombs and Phineas Pratt in the marriages to his step daughters. * 1640: August 5: John and Phineas sold the 2 acres above mentioned. * c1645/6: Sarah Coombs returned to England, without her husband or children. * 1646: October 15: William Spooner appeared before the Governor, 'to save the town harmless' for the child left with him by Mrs. Coombs. [Records of the colony of New Plymouth, Vol. 12 (1861) Deeds, &c. Vol. 1 1620-1651 & Book of Indian Records for their lands p. 137]* 1648: August 1: The court ordered that William Spooner keep the children of Mrs. Coombs in his care and 'not dispose of them in the future' without further orders from the court.
Sarah married by about 1632 to John Coombs.
The last record of John Coombs at Plymouth Colony was on November 5, 1644, when he sued Thomas Morton. [Wakefield, Robert S. The Probable English Origin of Mr. John Coombs of Plymouth Colony. in: The American Genealogsit, Vol. 71, New Haven, Connecticut, 1996 p. 247-9. (Online database. AmericanAncestors.org. New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2009 - .) ]
On October 27, 1646, Sarah's uncle Isaac Allerton, gave his son-in-law Thomas Cushman, power of attorney to collect debts on the estate of Godbert Godbertson due from John Coombs and others. [ Underhill, Lora Altine Woodbury. Descendants of Edward Small of New England, and the Allied Families, with Tracings of English Ancestry, Volume 2, Private Printing, Riverside Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1910 p. 603-4]
For reasons that are not known, possibly the demise of her husband, who had been disenfranchised for excessive drinking, and had been defendant for debts owed in several court cases, Sarah traveled to England about 1645/6 and left her two sons, John and Francis Coombs, in the care of their servant, William Spooner, who had agreed to their maintenance.
On August 1, 1648 At court, it was ordered, that Thomas Cushman shall have and enjoy, without disturbance, the one third part of all the English corn due unto Mis Combe, for her part, from William Spooner, for this present year ... "The said Court haue further ordered, concerning the children of the said Mis Combe, now being with William Spooner, yt the said Spooner keepe them for the psent, and not dispose of them for the future, without further order from the Court."[Records of the colony of New Plymouth, in New England; printed by order of the legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by New Plymouth Colony, by Nathaniel Bradstreet Shurtleff and David Pulsifer Vol. 2 (1855) Court Orders 1641-1651 p. 131] This language implies that she was still living at the time.
It is believed that Sarah died in England.
=== Children ===# John Coombs born about 1633; married Elizabeth (?Royal) Barlow at Boston on February 24, 1661/2. # Francis Coombs born about 1635; married first by 1673 Deborah Morton; married second by 1678, widow Mary (Barker) Pratt ; died at Middleborough, Massachusetts on December 31, 1682.
