    • == Biography ==Lydia TildenSometimes spelled "Tildin". was born 26 April 1658 in Marshfield, Plymouth colony to Thomas and Elizabeth (Bourne) (Waterman) Tilden."Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850: Marshfield V1," database of images, New England Historic Genealogical Society, American Ancestors (AmericanAncestors.org: accessed 11 February 2015), p 5, entry for "Lydia the daughter of Thomas Tilden"; citing compilation by Robert M Sherman and Ruth Wilder Sherman, Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Rhode Island, 1970.Donald Lines Jacobus, compiler, The Waterman Family, 3 vols. (New Haven, CT : E. F. Waterman, 1939-54), 1:615-16, 619-20; digital page images, Hathi Trust, (https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/005774594 : accessed 15 Jul 2018). Pages 615-16 reference the will of Lydia's grandfather, Thomas Bourne. The will is worded somewhat oddly, but Jacobus provides a reasonable interpretation that Lydia is Thomas's grand-daughter. Pages 619-20 reference the will of Thomas Tilden, that provides a straightforward reference to Thomas Tilden's daughter, Lydia Rider, thus confirming that Lydia, the daughter of Thomas, is the same Lydia who married Samuel Rider.
The date of her marriage to Samuel Rider II is usually given as 14 June 1680."Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850: Taunton (3 vols)," database of images, New England Historic Genealogical Society, American Ancestors (AmericanAncestors.org: accessed 7 February 2015), Vol 2, p 410, entry for Samuel Rider; citing "Vital Records of Taunton Massachusetts to the Year 1850," New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston, 1928.
However, WakefieldRobert S. Wakefield, compiler, Family of Richard Warren, Mayflower Families through Five Generations: Descendants of the Pilgrims who Landed at Plymouth, Mass. December 1620, Vol 18, part 1 (Plymouth, MA: General Society of Mayflower Descendants, 1999), p 14.remarks that the date is probably incorrect because it falls after the birth of the first child, Hannah. It's also notable that the cited place of her marriage differs from her place of residence.
      In 1683, Lydia as a cousin is mentioned in [[Crow-1068|William Crow's]] will."Massachusetts, Plymouth County, Probate Records, 1633-1967," images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-997D-V37Z : 14 March 2023), Wills 1633-1686 vol 1-4 > image 564 of 616; State Archives, Boston.
